Excited to see folks soon for "A line is a circle: A solar performance"! Here are some details to help you get to the event. Check out the eventbrite in the linkinbio for more info!

🚗 We will have ONE shuttle departing Honore-Beaugrand metro at 10:30am: look for a red minivan by the 85 EST stop or across the street: we have a cute little shuttle sign.

🚙 If you are driving yourself, free parking is available at the Recluse Sisters nearby at 12050 Boul. Gouin E. Look for our "Angles of Consequence" signs for guidance. From there it is a 6-8 minute walk to the performace site along a bike path.

🚲 Speaking of which: a bike path goes right by the site entrance! You can leave your bike by our security guard at the event entrance.

👮‍♂️ Oh yeah: we will have security onsite for the protection of our performer and communities.

🪨🪨 The entrance to the site is marked by two large boulders: there is an abandoned house at the rear of a clearing. If you go too fast you will miss it! Again, look for our signs.

The performance is a short, profound one, and we look forward to talking with you about it after the event. See you soon!

Sabina Gámez is an audiovisual artist whose practice explores embodiment and the body’s relationship to digital media and the environment. Her recent research investigates the multidimensional role of the sun, drawing on Solarpunk and Symbiocene theory to reflect on its geopolitical, social, and environmental implications. Her work in Angles of Consequence continues this investigation through a performance-installation developed for the path of the East Energy pipeline, which was cancelled thanks to Indigenous resistance, using mirrors, lenses and reflective solarpunk-inspired armours, to explore the sun’s role in shaping ecological and cultural systems.

No one will be turned away from the site, but consider coming Saturday, or arranging your own transportation: bike train, car share, and more! Lucy Fandel and Isabella Leone are artists working at the intersection of dance, performance, and theatre design. Their collaborative practice draws on movement, spatial exploration, and embodied attention to place. For Angles of Consequence, they are developing a site-specific performance in response to the Suncor refinery and its surrounding environment, engaging sunlight and the landscape with a roving dance explores notions of hidden labour, extraction, and attention.

We are expecting clear skies for "Refractions" shows! ✨️ Just a reminder that the artists @lucy.fandel and @rockharlequin have organized a BIKE TRAIN to the site, for both performances! Bike train leaders will depart with fellow pedalists from Dezery Square about an hour and a half before each performance. Look for someone with a bike and an "Angles of Consequence" t-shirt: you can also call bike train leaders in advance to coordinate: phone numbers are in the eventbrite at the #linkinbio. Oriana Confente, Bastik & Mila Figuet are three interdisciplinary artists based in Tiohtià:ke / Montréal. Their individual practices span writing, mechanical engineering, performance, visual culture, and feminist archival methods.
Together, they are developing a site-specific performance for Angles of Consequence that cites past legislation prohibiting the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure in Quebec in Boise Steinberg park. Their work draws on shared interests in ecological systems, collective memory, material, identity, and resistance, while engaging with sunlight as a central element.

WHY BOISÉ STEINBERG?
The artists chose this site for their performance as a response to 2022’s Bill 21, “An Act mainly to end petroleum exploration and production and the public financing of those activities,” which was celebrated as a climate win by many local NGOs and environmental organizations. Boise Steinberg is a greenspace which is owned by a combination of the city of Montreal, the Quebec province, and the ministry of transport. It is home to a wide variety of insects, plants and fungi and cared for through regular community cleanups.

Their individual practices span writing, mechanical engineering, performance, visual culture, and feminist archival methods. Together, they are developing a site-specific performance for Angles of Consequence at the Boisé Steinberg, an unruly greenspace that has resisted threats of industrial development thanks to community mobilization. Their work draws on shared interests in ecological mourning, collective action, and memory, while engaging with sunlight as a central element.

"The sun'll come out, tomorrow!" (Annie)

Hey y'all! I'm Alexia Maldonado Juarez and I'm a Research Assistant on this wonderful project! I consider my art to be a little hodgepodge goth as I'm very interested in diving into cycles of life and death through any material I can get my hands on.

Sustainability will be the food that feeds the next life cycle of the art world in the years to come. And I am fascinated by how we can remarry our practice to our body and nature! With this project, I can't wait to see how the sun can become an ally in this exploration!
